A resin nameplate is one of the most popular resin projects in India. It makes a great housewarming gift and is a best-seller for small resin businesses. This guide shows you how to make one from start to finish.
What you'll need
- Vitro 2:1 Clear Epoxy Resin (a 30 × 15 cm plate needs roughly 165 g)
- An MDF or wooden base board, or a nameplate silicone mould
- Letters: acrylic, metal, vinyl or printed name stickers
- Decoration: dried flowers, gold flakes, pearls, mica powder
- Masking tape, a spirit level, mixing cups, stir sticks, gloves and a heat gun

Step-by-step
Step 1: Prepare the base
Sand the MDF lightly and wipe off the dust. Seal the board with a very thin coat of resin or primer first. This stops air bubbles rising from the wood later.
Step 2: Tape the edges
If you don't want resin dripping down the sides, tape the underside edges with masking tape. Place the board on cups so it sits level and off the table.
Step 3: Plan your design
Arrange the name, flowers and decorations before mixing. Take a photo so you can copy the layout quickly.
Step 4: Mix the resin
Weigh 2 parts resin to 1 part hardener and mix slowly for 3–5 minutes. Read How to Mix Epoxy Resin Correctly if you're new to this.
Step 5: First coat and placing
Pour a thin first coat and spread it evenly. Press letters and flowers gently into place. Flat items like letters and pressed petals sit best.
Step 6: Remove bubbles and cure
Pass a heat gun quickly over the surface. Cover it and let it cure for about 18–20 hours.
Step 7: Final glossy coat
Pour a second thin coat over everything to seal the letters and give a smooth, glass-like finish.
Step 8: Finish and fix
Remove the tape, sand any drips under the edges, and add hooks or double-sided mounting tape on the back.
💡 Pro tip: Raised 3D letters look best when they sit on top of the first cured coat, with only a thin final coat around them.
