Pricing is where many resin artists lose money. They charge only for the resin and forget their time, packaging and mistakes. Here's a simple formula to price every piece with confidence.
The simple pricing formula
Price = (Materials + Packaging + Your time) + Profit
1. Materials
Add up everything that goes into the piece:
- Resin (by grams used)
- Colours, flowers, gold leaf and other inclusions
- Hardware: keyrings, clock machines, handles
- A share of moulds, gloves, cups and sticks
2. Packaging
Box, bubble wrap, tags, thank-you card and tape.
3. Your time
Decide an hourly rate for yourself and multiply it by the hours spent designing, pouring, finishing and packing.
4. Profit
Add a profit margin on top so your business can grow, and to cover failed pieces and re-pours.
Worked example: a set of 4 coasters
These numbers are only an example. Use your own costs.
- Resin: about 115 g. With the Vitro 2:1 1.5kg kit at about ₹1 per gram, that's roughly ₹115.
- Colours and decoration: say ₹60
- Share of moulds and tools: say ₹40
- Packaging: say ₹50
- Your time: 1.5 hours × your hourly rate
Add these together, then add your profit margin. That gives your selling price.
💡 Pro tip: Bigger resin packs cost less per gram. The 1.5kg Vitro kit works out much cheaper per gram than small packs, so your margin grows as you scale.
Pricing tips
- Don't compete only on price. Show your quality, finish and packaging.
- Charge more for custom work: names, photos and wedding flowers.
- Offer sets. Coasters in sets of 4 or 6 sell better than singles.
- Add rush fees for urgent orders.
- Price wedding keepsakes as premium. They carry emotional value and take the most time.
- Review your prices every few months as costs change.

FAQs
How do I calculate resin cost per piece?
Divide the kit price by its total grams to get the cost per gram, then multiply by the grams used in the piece.
Should I include my time in the price?
Yes. Your time is part of the cost. Without it you're working for free.
Why are custom resin pieces more expensive?
They need more design time, client communication and care, and they can't be resold if something changes.
